So, I suppose after six months of going steady, it might be time to change my FB status. And as a certain special someone is, quite rightly, rather peeved with my secrecy, I had best reveal that I’m in a relationship. My new imaginary boyfriend is called Luca. He’s 6”1 with jet black short floppy hair and lambent green eyes, framed by naturally thin horizontal eyebrows that dramatically leave the edges of his face in a sudden downward swoop, like drunken square root signs without the tails or something an expert Chinese calligrapher would effortlessly dash off with a sable-haired brush and blackest ink. Luca is currently studying for a postgraduate degree in anthropology whilst also holding down a short order chef job to fund his studies. The late nights and long days have created a couple of small dark drop shadows under each sparkling eye, lending him an intense and mysterious Romany look. Imagine Johnny Depp’s audition tapes for Pirates of the Caribbean had he filmed it before Edward Scissorhands. Luca is Serbian but fluent in English, French and Italian. We sit at night entwined on the sofa as he recounts the dark legends of the Balkans and the chaotic history of the Caucasus Mountains. I shall post a picture as soon as he becomes real.
