So I tried Rust. Gameplay consisted of three hours running around in solitude, killed from behind suddenly, then spawn camped [or otherwise held up] three times in a row. Lack of map in game made it impossible to find where Id been or know where I was going. I also noticed that the sun was very difficult to pinpoint, being very faded, so telling direction that way wasnt easy. I really dont see much reason to spend more time in the game. I feel like Day Z or Wasteland would both be better uses of my time for the same kind of game play. Admittedly I didnt get very far into the crafting. Took two hours to discover the joys of the stone hatchet. I got lucky and looted a bow and some arrows off the corpse of a sleeping person. I just kinda murdered them, they were outside in the mountains. I played enough to vaguely understand the use and creation of walls, barricades, doors, foundations, pillars, and the like. I also learned that the players like to shoot first, and shout get on the ground after youre dead. If it didnt take hours of hiding and gathering and exploration to even get a modest amount of resources that might not piss me off entirely so much.
