So I use antiquated photographic methods involving the use of gelatin emulsion. Gelatin used over something such as albumen or collodion allows for a much faster shutter speed. Gelatin made split second photographs possible for the first time. The military was interested in this new technology (as they tend to be) and decided to experiment with these new rapid photographs. So what did they do? Take an image the moment a canon is fired? Take an image of someone jumping through the air? No, they strapped dynamite to a mules head and took a photograph of the moment of the explosion.
