So... I visited the Gladheart Christian community in Asheville. Since they observe the Shabbat, tonight was their special service. So neat as more than 30 members and guests gathered outside in a large circle around a campfire. Worship was led by a man with a guitar and the songs were accompanied by Jewish-style dancing. Then, different people shared, young and old, women and men and the service ended with prayer. The teaching was along the idea of preparing a bride, something for Yeshua to come back to earth for. I heard emphasis on following the example of Abraham, going out not knowing where he went, but they were quick to bring Yeshua as our Savior and Redeemer. A lot of comments were made about living life in community. It is obvious this is not a fly-by-night idea, for there was structure and order throughout the entire evening. I listened for ideas about them being the only true believers, but instead, I heard much more about love being the way to co-exist peaceably. Their love is genuine and their welcome warm. I met Brian, an ex-Greatful Dead guy who is overwhelmed by the love and forgiveness he is finding there. Another man got up and expressed after having been a part of the community and taking his family and leaving, now was headed back again and about the total love and forgiveness extended to him even after he had made slanderous remarks about the community. Jacob comes from VA, where he had been studying to become a Buddhest monk and now has lived in community at Gladheart since June and is a baptized member. "Salvation through Jesus Christ for all my past, present and future sins and a genuine love" were the two things most outstanding for him since he joined. "Learning to share space, get along with others and being willing to take correction" has been the hardest, but he said he loves it. "Come back and stay a week with us! Spend the night. You are always welcome!" I am in a slight daze at getting a glimpse of such harmony and peace in this group. Hmm, maybe there is something to "Sell all you have, give to the poor and come, follow Me!"
