So I was just informed that even though I live in privatized housing on post I still have to live next door to someone from the general public. I stay on post because when I deploy for a year or more I like to have this safety blanket feeling knowing my wife and kids are around a safer environment. But now it seems that the housing is not making enough money so they decided to open housing up to general public. A few things bother me about this.. 1 being that they pay less than I am for the housing that is the same as mine (so I serve to get screwed over by those I protect), 2 being there is no safety blanket for me or my family (since anyone can move in... which mean drug dealers, pedophiles, or any criminals that need on post... to include anyone in a terrorist organization), I now have to spend more money to protect my family i.e. fences and guns because someone left their stuff on my back porch. 3 I feel and this is just my thought. If I and all my comrade in arms are putting our lives on the line than we should be allowed this safety blanket if we so desire and not have to worry if our family lives are safe while we are away. The last is simple.. if we are opening our gates for housing then all of the benefits we get and enjoy i.e. PX, commissary, Tricare, dental, child care, cys sports, and more will soon be open to the general public as well and that just means that this job or life that we live is nothing special anymore .. the benefits will be open to the public and we will soon be the public that is away from home more often than we want... Again these are just my thoughts and none others but I am sure that there are many who agree with me.
