So I wasnt going to write anything about this because I didnt want Dianes stroke to be some kind of political thing. But I think it was an awesome gesture from someone weve known since high school and I just needed to say something. On Friday, when Diane had her stroke, her best friend from high school, maid of honor at our wedding and life-long pal, Colleen was the very first to come visit her in the hospital. It was sweet to see these two who have known each other since they were teenagers caring for one another. Later that night I got a call on my cellphone and answered it and heard, Rick, this is Mike Coffman. I just got off the plane from DC, how is Diane? I told him and he said, When can I come see her? Mike knew Diane and me at Aurora Central our junior year before Mike moved to Texas with his Dad for a couple years. On Saturday morning Mike showed up at the hospital, all by himself, no name tag, no campaign buttons, no brochures. Just someone checking up on an old friend and it was very cool. In the middle of everything thats going on right now for him it was as important to see a friend as anything else and it lifted Dianes spirits. It was a special momentl!! Thanks Colleen and Mike for years of being there!!!
