So..I worked for Ray Berrett at the Beacon Club as a bartender in 1981 and his bar manager in 1982. During that time period I met a bull dogger who was built like a fire plug and who was a bouncer for me in those days of Jimmy and Bert Kelly, John and Virginia Custis, Becky gravel, and Rhonda Davidson. He was one of the scrappiest guys I knew and would never back down even from the biggest Cowboys. He only stood about 55 but he was like I said a bulldogger. His name was Brendan Coleman....and I was proud to call him my friend. I lost track of him after I moved to Phoenix...but recently within the past 6 months got put back in contact with him. He had had a stroke and a heart attack and was not in the best of health. I, after a 30 year time period of not talking to him, had a nice conversation with him and we had planned to meet some Saturday for a cup of coffee. Like the jackass I am...I could never get myself to have that cup of coffee with him...because he sounded so weak on the phone. He sounded sick and frail and thats not how I wanted to remember my good friend Brendan Coleman....a true cowboy who saved my ass several times in Beacon Bar fights. I just got word that Brendan died this morning at 5:25 A.M.. There will be no services at his request but a meeting of his friends this Saturday at the Mills Fire Station. The reason Im writing all of this is just my way of saying dont put something off, especially when it comes to your friends or family. You might not ever get another chance to tell that person how much they meant or mean to you. To my friend Brendan Coleman...I wish you a swift journey my friend and know that I did think the world of you. Thank you for being part of my life.
