So, Im about to say something controversial...a man was killed by a grizzly over the weekend while on a hunting trip in Kananaskis. He apparently stumbled across them and interrupted the mother and her cub while they were feeding on a deer and she attacked him and mauled him to death. Its a very sad tragedy and I feel horrible for his loved ones. But heres the controversial part. Apparently, the authorities are still trying to decide the fate of these two animals. Whats to decide? Because this man made a conscious decision to invade their home with the intent of killing other animals, these endangered bears may now have to die? It makes no sense to me. They didnt do anything wrong. They were acting like what they are. Wild animals defending themselves against what they perceived as a threat. If he would have shot and killed one of them it would have been considered self-defense but this mother bear is a monster for protecting herself and her cub? Leave the bears alone. If they have wandered into an area where there are a lot of people, then trap them and move them. Otherwise, when people make the choice to invade these remote areas, this is the chance they take.
