So Im driving down St. Joe River Drive approaching Parnell when I see a bunch of teeny-tiny baby ducks all bunches together running madly next to the curb with no mama. Fearing for their safety, I u-turn, park the car, grab my 31 Utility Tote and top from the back of my car and go running after the little guys. I was able to capture 8 if the 9 little ones and discovered Mama flying overhead. I ran to chase #9 but the little stinker was too fast for this old lady. The little guy was finally able to jump the curb, with me in hot pursuit, and he finally tumbled his way to the river to join Mama. However, before that happened, I thought the little guy was stuck or hurt in the rocks, so me and my bag of ducklings, climbed over the retaining barriers, carefully maneuvered down the rocks, (in my Crocs ... who knew I should have worn my running/rock climbing shoes?) to help the little guy when he did, indeed, tumble down to Mama. Since I was most of the way to the river, I schooched the rest of the way to get as close to the water as I could and released the 8 little ducklings to their Mama and she swam happily under the Parnell St. bridge! She never looked back to say Thank You. :) As I carefully found my way back to the top of the bank, it occurred to me that I had left my cell phone in the car and if I fell and broke my leg, no one would know I was there! Obviously, I made it back to the car successfully. I treated myself to a cold iced tea. I have had a great day. I cant tell you how cute those little ones were and how satisfying this experience has been. All I can say is, WOW!
