So, Im going in to see Lucy and the guy behind me is saying to his female companion that Lucy was the worst movie hed ever seen. This did not bode well. Did not take long to find out why someone wouldnt like it. This film has a very high pretentious, arty bullshit quotient. Especially near the beginning where Lucy herself hasnt had her origin story yet but Besson still cant resist tossing in random shots from the Serengeti. Later on, all the weirdness comes from ScarJo showing off her enormous Johannsen powers, but at the beginning its strictly the director arriving at the weirdness party before his story has actually gotten there. If youre willing to ride its crazy train, theres fun to be had but overall its kind of in a middle ground where its too crazy to be an action movie but not crazy enough to let you excuse the gaping plot holes. Kind of like if 2001 and Kill Bill had a baby.
