So Im in a trial and have called my client to give evidence. He is alleged amongst other things to have violently assaulted the complainant. He is 16 stone, very strong and I want to emphasize his strength as the complainant did not sustain a single mark. I ask the client the following: What can you curl? He confidently replies 80 kg. What can you bench? 180 kg he assuredly replies. What can you squat? 220 Kg he damn right brags! The judge who has been furiously taking notes slams his pen on his bench, looks up and screams what on earth are you talking about, I dont understand, squat, he just said five minutes ago he lived in a house!!! The jury are laughing their heads off - at the judge of course! I reply Your Honour curls, benching and squatting are forms of exercise with weights. Really he responds in sheer bewilderment. Im thinking yes really we dont all play polo and go sailing. But out of respect I tentatively demonstrate what a squat is in front of everyone. I did wobble a bit but thankfully my legs pulled through! So there it is all those years ago when I was told squatting would improve my leap in basketball I would never have thought that it would also come in handy during a trial for a serious offence in the Crown Court. Cant wait to tell my grand children about this one! 😉 KM x
