So Im starting to feel a familiar pull and those familiar Sparks again lately. Ive been reading numerous reports and seeing stories left and right about how many kids dont have the basic school supplies they need to go to school, be productive, and learn. For allot of kids the first day of school is exciting. they get to see buddies they didnt see over the summer. they get to make new friends. they cant wait to see who their teacher is. But for a growing number of our communities kids that first day is nerve racking. They are hoping nobody notices them wearing the same clothes two days in a row. Hoping the kid who they sit next to is going to be friendly enough to loan them a sheet of paper n borrow them a pencil. Hoping just to fit in. So Ive been thinking of catalyst starting a drive for school supplies. Ive also had somebody reach out to me about a program sponsoring families for back to school clothes shopping who really really need it. Ive tried to ignore the pull because of all my selfish reasons Im too busy with stats class, Im busy coaching all those amazing little girls, Ive been off work for almost a month with being sick and i just dont have the money, etc etc etc. but the last time i felt this pull something amazing happened. Our community stood up for our kids and we stopped the world for a minute and got over 7,000 donations to help the homeless children in our area. So i can no longer put the pull Ive been feeling for a call to action on the back burner. But as usual Im just one person who made one post, the real magic lies in those Im surrounded by. So whos up for getting these kids some basic supplies to start this school year off right? One pack of pencils, one notebook, one calculator. Just one item will make a difference...
