So, Im struggling with something for a couple weekends from now. Essentially Kaijudo Champs no Prize support Vs. Magic tournaments actual prize support, and judge support. I split a plane ticket to Seattle, which is a cost I can not avoid, and there will be hotel and taxi on top of that and then essentially Ill walk home with what is likely nothing but a couple of drafts under my belt of the new set at Champs. Plus, Ill have all of Monday to explore Seattle, as much as taxi fare and lugging around a backpack will afford. Vs. A 3rd party Tournament for which I also have an invitation to, within driving distance. Hotel split a bunch of ways, but there is also a judge conference where I could potentially get a Judge foil Force of Will, as well as the rest of the current judge packet, which could be instantly sold to cover my plane ticket cost. Not to mention compete in a tournament (SCG Invitational) for actual cash prizes, hanging with a bunch of friends, playing a format I love (Legacy) and a format I hate and know nothing about (Standard). Im leaning toward going to Seattle, but the trip is so expensive, because I need to pay for hotel, get cards, get packs to draft with to practice drafting the set/game. And the grand prize is almost literally nothing. I remember when Vs. System came out, the game was launched with a series of high prize tournaments to get interest in the game, and if I remember correctly, it worked pretty well. Its really disappointing that the opportunity cost of the Kaijudo Champs is so high. I feel like this should be an easy slam dunk in the favor of a Championship of a game that were attempting to truly vitalize. I know this is a topic that people have already talked/complained about, but I wanted to articulate some of my thoughts, because its something Im really fighting with and have been for the last several days.
