So Ive been doing the AR/Collections gig for nearly a decade now, in various forms. Most days the job is pretty cut-&-dried. Most days being a collections agent means acting like more of a financial counselor than anything else. It entails a lot of patience and a thick skin, but really most of what I do involves explaining policies and doling out advice regarding solutions. Occasionally however, I run into a customer with a total No Win Scenario and their life is literally crumbling into dust, and as much as I wish I could help them, I cannot, and all I can do is deliver the worst news of their week in the most compassionate manner possible... And then I wish I had gone to Grad School to become a history teacher.
