So Ive decided to quit anime, and picked up some western shows... but all the new American shows are shit, so I went a bit further back... all the way to... Kenan and Kel ep 1: Beautiful! Marvelous! This is how one should open a season. We get a great episode establishing the brand of comedy this show wields like a fencer with a rapier. Sharp stabs of wit outline every joke in the pseudo boke-and-tsukkomi routine by the protagonists. Jokes are supplemented by jokes, connecting together like a beautifull wrought aerial juggle with wall and ground bounces leading to a touch-of-death... from laughter. Not to say this episode was devoid of story, however. These two plucky young boys, in an attempt to screw with the merciless and judgemental system of America in the 90s, decide to take advantage of it. And it all began... with a screw. How poetic! A few hoops jumped later, and we arrive at the conclusion of their thrilling escapade, which will surely pave the way for the rest of the episodes, shaping our heroes towards their future! Now, I dont want to spoil the twist ending, even though this masterful specimen of American television has already been out for a couple of decades. I urge you to watch this compelling tale of two young men just wanting to make a quick buck in a society against them. I cant wait to dig into future episodes where we will obviously get more wit, life lessons, and harshness of reality all in 20 minute segmentations of pure genius. If this was too long for you to read, then maybe you need to stop watching anime and watch some intelligent, cultured television. Like Kenan and Kel.
