So John R. Commons just split the "standard" economic genealogy up in his "The Legal foundations of Capitalism". He places Menger and Bohm-Bawerk as proponents of Hedonistic Economics (which, due to marginal utility theory, collapses back down to Marx, Smith and Proudhon as a kind of Engineering Economics) and Bastiat as a forerunner to Volitional or Institutional Economics and NOT (or not entirely) Austrian (Hedonistic) Economics. I am geeking out a little because Bastiat is one of my favs and this puts him in the tradition of Vincent and Elinor Ostrom. The rest of the Austrians, besides Hayek and Wittgenstein, I can meh or meh - give or take meh-meh.
