So, Just gonna share what I learned at Cornerstone Church of Garden City, KS today. This comes from the Change Your World series, and discussing applications and principles to live by. Today, teaching comes from 1 Corinthians 7:28-30. Kind of a weird passage if you dont understand it. To top line, our cultural philosophy is what we have determines what we feel. This passage covers 5 areas: Relationships, Difficulties, Fulfillment, Financial Resources and Accessible Resources (use-ability). Anyhoo...we should not be consumed with these as they are small in contrast to the big picture of eternity. Not saying that these are not important, but II John 1:8 says to watch ourselves, so that we dont loose what we have worked for but may win a full reward. Meaning, trusting in God and not that of the physical world and our Cultural Philosophy, will ultimately bring us happiness as God will provide the rest. I will say though, it is important that you continue to strive for things, but keep it in context and understand that life is short and the world is passing away, meaning we are all going to die someday, so dont waste your time trying to make an impression in the world, when the real impression you want to make is in Heaven. Ok, so that was my take on todays message. Now see...going to church isnt about being a holy-roller or Jesus freak. There are actually some good principles and guidelines to consider applying to your life. Some inspiration of sorts, and I would be foolish not to share. Take it or leave it, its your choice and under no circumstances will I, or should anyone else for that matter be judgmental of your decisions. Its been a personal decision for me to try to look at things a little differently, because I too fall into our cultural philosophy...a lot, still do. Ive got to say, its a struggle because I always want to be bigger and better than everyone else and it makes me so damn miserable sometimes. My competitive spirit exhausts me and I highly doubt that will change overnight, or even ever...it i how I am hardwired. But it is good to have an understanding that this is and will be roadblock to obtaining true happiness. It is important to understand our (my) real reason for being here, even in good ol Garden...and put my efforts and feelings into things that really matter. Hmmm, I wonder if I interpreted that correctly. LOL.
