So.......Let me get this straight: Were just supposed to IGNORE the abusers..... because, Hey! Theyll eventually weed themselves out in the end, right!? No harm, no foul- Sure, as long as YOURE not the victim!!! {Please read on...} I DONT GET peoples mentality that just ignoring someones bad behaviours will solely lead them to taking themselves out in some relatively OK manner- as opposed to the reality of the angry, genetically-enhanced, hungry, steroid-fueled Gorilla that is let loose in a china store???? Its ok if they abuse, just so long as they dont abuse me IS NOT AN OK IDEA. And I suppose all those other already-victimized poor souls should just KNOW to ignore them as well!? Oh. Gee. If only I had just IGNORED all of those abusers I was raised by, encountered later...... I should have just IGNORED being raped, because- I mean, hes only going to take himself out with that abusive behaviour, right? Ive heard this response in a variety of online, in-person, via-text-younameit ways, witnessed my Friends stand around and watch other friends physically abuse another friend because - well, theyre just drunk. HOW is any of that ok? We need to start having a REAL dialogue about abuse in this country, because were ALL dicks. We could ALL use the lesson in one-way-shape-or-form, but apparently the most urgent being called Dont Be an Enabler. Its pretty simple- and something I learned drawing with crayons on the paper table cloths each Friday night at AA with my mom- when she was making the effort. ..... Dont be passive and sit by and watch and let someone abuse another person- Im LUCKY to be alive today to iterate this to you- if nothing else resonates with you other than that- just sit with that little bit awhile. And its been a LONG road of recovering from the brainwashing that takes over your senses when you are allowing those abusers to remain in your life- even if its JUST to ignore them until they go away. You could save us. Some*one* could have saved me- and all they had to do was speak up. Take action. DO something.
