So, Obama approved the trade of five Gitmo detainees for a single American POW. Oops! Did I say POW? The right-wing hysterics are that he is at least a deserted and traitor and possibly a collaborator. The bulk of the evidence? He was heard to say Salaam to his captors; in between escape attempts and when he wasnt being held in a specially built cage. This young American volunteered to serve his Country at 23 and, possibly deserter, perhaps because he suffered from PTSD. A few members of his unit have criticized him, but the Pentagon had stated that reports of Other Americans dying to save him are a fabrication (GASP!). He was held 5 years, escaped once for 6 days,was re-captured and held in a cage. Oddly, the Taliban did not water board him. Sadly, there is a precedent in the USA for spitting on American Service Members who return home, including POWs. It occurred during Viet Nam. Except now the spitting is being done by the extremist right-wing for political gain, ignoring the long history of this practice (Israel just did the same thing for a single POW). I do not know the circumstances surrounding the young soldier and his captivity and release and neither does Fox News or any of the rest if you. I will wait for the investigation to be completed and, regardless of the findings, I will not be doing any spitting on a returning American Soldier.
