So The first 3 of 15 Arrived today! How excited they are.. how tired they are... but more excited I think! I am thrilled that I get to spend the next school year getting to know them and learning about South Africa, Denmark and Argentina!! But there are still a few still waiting for the green light to pack their bags to come to Texas and learn about us!! Here are short bios of students available in your area: Filip from Czech Republic, is described by others as very funny, outgoing, and enthusiastic. He has a great relationship with his parents, especially his mother. His mother is his best friend and they love to spend time together. Filip knows that if he needs help with anything, his parents will always be there for him. In his spare time he loves to play sports. He likes to play badminton, do martial arts, and go horseback riding. His biggest passion is dancing. He has been dancing for years, choreographs his own routines, and loves to go to competitions. During his time abroad he hopes to improve his English and become more independent. Roosa from Finland, is the only daughter in her family of six, and has a lot in common with her brothers, aside from their taste in music! Music is one of the most important parts of Roosas life, and she can always be seen with headphones, dancing to hip hop or pop songs, or playing the piano. When she asked her friends to describe her, they each had different perceptions of her personality, but all agreed that she can get along with anyone, especially children. When she is older, Roosa hopes to work as a pediatrician and continue her hobbies of dance, arts and crafts, and watching movies. George from Germany, is described by others as a funny, polite and easy going young man who likes to help people. He’s enthusiastic about American football and plays twice a week, plus he goes to the gym to do weight training when he has the time. On the weekends he likes to hang out and play computer games with his cousins, who are his best friends, or play soccer with some friends from his church. George likes to read the bible and enjoys being part of a youth group that stands against the repression of women in different cultures. George speaks good Arabic and wants to teach English, PE and religion abroad after university. Hes one of three triplet brothers, and his major interest is playing erhu, a traditional Chinese bowed instrument. He loves the erhu because of its special timbre which he finds primitive and native. He also really loves basketball, finding its displays of athletic prowess to be really cool! Hed love to get autographs from his idols if he could. Auston feels luckier than a lottery winner to be going on this exchange. He plans to study teaching in university. Viviana from Italy, is described by other as helpful, energetic, kind, and cheerful. She has a great relationship with her family; she is especially close to her younger sister. At home she often helps her mother cook and clean. AFS families come in all shapes and sizes – from individuals to large foster families. Students bring their own spending money and medical coverage while host families provide food, a bed, and the same care and support they would give their own children. If youve already decided to host--thank you!! If you have ever considered hosting a student for 6 months, an academic year, or even 6-12 weeks as a welcome family, please let this be the time you step forward and say “yes”. If you cannot host at this time, please share this on your FB page so you can help us find a family who might be able to. Want to learn more about hosting: afsusa.org/host-family/. Thank you so much for your continued support of AFS now and in the future.
