So Trev asked me yesterday, begged might be more like it, if I would go with Cheryl, Emma and him to see Guardians of the Galaxy, starting at virtually the exact same time as the Eagles game. I didnt really want to see it, not being a CGI guy, and I told him so, but told him I’d think about it. I always tell the kids 2 things – (OK – quick Barney Fife reference – “The First Rule is – Obey all Rules!”) 2 things: 1 - Family First and 2 - (I learned this from a story in Life in these United States in Readers Digest about 40+ years ago and it obviously always stayed with me) I could have watched the game and a year from now I wouldnt remember a thing about it, or I could do the family thing and Id remember it the rest of my life. So I DVR-ed the game and went to the movie and it was actually not too bad, and I’m glad I went. The additional funny story is that when we got there, Cheryl saw that Gone With The Wind was playing on the screen right next to ours, starting 5 minutes after ours ended, and of course, even though in her own words, shes seen it “a few million times” on TV/Video/DVR, she asked us if we could just go in just to watch the beginning. Once she sat down in the theatre and we saw tears streaming down her face as the opening credits started to roll, I had a feeling she wasn’t going anywhere until it was over. So I watched with the kids right up until the war started and then nudged Cheryl and told her I’d take the kids home and to call me when it was over and I’d come back and get her. (She said she’d pay for her ticket retroactively next time we’re there.) Now don’t you think with all that good juju/family karma, Chip Kelly would have run it in on 3rd down and the Iggles would have won?
