So, YOU find yourself qualified for a local grand slam final in May. Many teams use regional tournaments as prep for NPS and history has shown that it has paid off well for Mental Graffiti. Mid-late May team selection does not leave a lot time to prepare for a regional tournament that is in mid-June, so now is the time to consider the Rustbelt Regional. This years event is June 13 & 14 in Detroit, a 4-5 hour drive, 6ish hour train from Chicago. According to talk on the Rustbelt Slam FB group, the host hotel and main venues are walking distance and affordable, especially for 4-5 poets. If you are down for what is always a good time, sign up to volunteer with the condition that you may be competing. By May, there would be a whole crew of Chicago poets planning the trip and, those who dont make a team, make a fantastic support crew. I would love to see Lethal Poetry at Rustbelt, as they have already done Southern Fried, competing in their home region. It was great to have Mental Graffiti back in the mix last year and it will be even better when they get back on finals stage. Join the Rustbelt Regional Poetry Slam group.
