So a director called me and wanted me to audition in LA to be ones of the leads in a pilot for a TV series, one they are preparing to pitch to the networks. It was a very fascinating story line where I would get to be a hard cold villain and wife to a destructive hateful mob man who was murdered and my character is out for revenge. The director/writer told me it was the darkest, coldest character she had ever created. She was excited for me to watch a clip of her work and to see that it was high quality and not like a bunch of the crappy productions floating out there. She was so passionate about her script and work, that I was excited to read it and delve into the character. BUT when I received the script and link to her work - :( :( :( Visually done well, but 80 percent of the dialogue in the clip was the f word. Really, really!!!!! How unimaginative, uncreative and awful! It was tactless and I hate profanity, especially in such high volume! I was saddened and disappointed because it could have been a really cool part. Then I thought - well maybe the script is better. So I was skimming parts of it and it was quite engaging for a minute and then PURE tackiness ensued:( How does any writer think that a script with over 20 swear words within a few lines will get picked by a network. Beside I think that swearing in that manner is for the UNinventive and unskilled writer that cant work their craft better. I was heartbroken. I KNOW there are good scripts out there, but where are they? Im amazed at the amount of bad stuff and awkward positions actors are faced with in this industry. The ratio of crap to quality content is astoundingly low. It is so frustrating sometimes!!! I guess I just need to start creating the good. I suppose if I myself dont do stuff, things wont change. We all must. Just ignoring the bad leads to an astronomical amount of crap. We are leaving a legacy for future generations, what do we want it to say, to portray? If we arent part of the good movement who will be? How long have we hoped someone else would fix the problem? How much denial until the good is completely gone? Are we fighters or hiders?
