So according to John Key, if we want a gold plated electricity system [read, one that doesnt break down] consumers will need to pay more. Once again families get higher bills. Two points: security of supply IS the most important part of a network, its not a gold plated luxury. Second, Transpower is scheduled to make the government $151 million over the 2014 year. Instead of pocketing that money into the consolidated account, perhaps the Government puts that towards securing the network - as the Labour government once did.
