So, after much deliberation, I have decided to decline my challenge to do the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge. I get it, its raised a ton of awareness, its raised millions of dollars and that is fantastic. For those reasons, its a great thing. But, for me personally to do this, I have to feel like it is the right thing to do... and I just dont. I really dont mean to be preachy or hypocritical here but I might risk doing both...I dont know if its that some people have to walk hours to get a bucket of fresh water and I feel bad pouring it over my head (like Im mocking their struggle). Or maybe its that I have a hard time with any sort of publicity campaign of this type and think it is a bit self serving (like selling pink vacuums or batteries when just 1% of donations go to actual breast cancer research). Or maybe I just dont want to make a video ;) Anyway, Im going to head on over to alsa.org/ and donate some hard earned cash. I challenge you Susie Nath Eckert, Dani Bojarski and Chase LaCroix to do the same. Or, get all crazy and do the ice bucket challenge if you feel like its the right thing to do!
