So after mulling it over, Ive decided that Hobbit: With A Vengeance was not a good film. It was entertaining, at no point was I bired- but I also very rarely *cared*. Threats came from nowhere and were resolved for no reason. Relationships were told but barely shown. The menace they built up around Smaug in Hobbit 2: Hob Harder was wasted by offing him in what amounted to a prologue. The one genuinely interesting thread in the film, Thorins madness and its effect on the company, was abandoned without real resolution two thirds of the way in to make way for more fights that didnt mean anything. Worth a watch for the spectacle, I suppose, but in the end not much more than a spectacle.
