So after talking to my fellow Imperials on the way home from Good Bad and the Ugly. I believe that modified Maelstrom can make for a really good game and help non LOW and non-Imperial Knights armies some boost to the games. I really thought Tim Schmidts Maelstrom lists were great. I think tweaking or adding columns or heck using similar ones is a good way to make the maelstrom missions great. Why you may ask? Well here is why. People complain about cards that they can not use - like kill a flyer, cast a psychic power. Well those are not in the choices. Second - the cards are too random... Well not any more. Tims list is just that, a list. Also, it gets rid on some of the randomness because YOU choose when you try to achieve those said objectives. No, getting the capture Objective 6 on a turn where it is impossible to get. Now you can chose it when you think that you can score it the best. It also cuts down on objective camping, because the list is a tricky one. You can only achieve each thing on the list ONCE per game. So that means you can not camp on objective 6 and collect points every turn. It also adds tactics into the game as it forces you to think about which ones you want to go for in a given turn. Some would say this is complicated, but the game IS about strategy and planning so I say it works well with this game. I believe this also helps with people that have been playing a while like me and go yeah - another kill point mission..... or another normal objective game. This spices it up. In closing I think Tim did a great job for the GBU missions and these maelstrom missions and I do think that Maelstrom is very usable in competitive play. What are your thoughts... Agree? Disagree? I want to hear and have a friendly discussion. Cheers all.
