So anybody who knows me is aware that I watch both good and bad - TopicsExpress

So anybody who knows me is aware that I watch both good and bad movies. I used to do a best and worst list every year; though that dropped off the last couple of years. But I like checking out a variety as I know that there are lots of parts that have to come together well in order to make a movie work. Its nowhere near as easy as it seems, which is why the great films deserve all the credit they get. Conversely I like seeing what a film looks like when it goes wrong and then trying to figure out what the hell happened. This all being said, I finally sat down and took the bullet and watched the abomination that is The Lone Ranger. Upon initial watching I have to say what a hulking, fantastic, tremendous piece of crap that was. Upon reflection a bit after watching it, Im still deconstructing all the inane, poor choices that went into making this thing such a mash up of phenomenal levels of terrible. Script was confused with the outline of the characters history and muddied up by not knowing what direction to go. Over the top action sequences mixed with offbeat humor (that didnt work and felt out of place) didnt give them good groundwork to start with. Then no chemistry between Armie a Hammer and Johnny Depp as the two leads doesnt help. Add in Depp, whos long given up actual acting, as he does another character based off quirky behaviors that comes across more annoying than interesting or with having any depth. Cliched plot lines and characters in the mix dont help. And the over the top action sequences alienated me as opposed to pulling me into the film. The only thing I can say is that the filmography was good and there are some nice shots of Monument Valley in Utah that are just stunning. Otherwise this abomination is an ego fest of director, Gore Verbinski, actor, Depp, and producer; Jerry Bruckheimer who always was willing to sacrifice story and acting for extra effects and chase scenes. Id say this one is as bad as Id heard it was, but no.. Its far, far worse.
