So, apparently my favorite frog (cartoon frog, Michigan J) was inspired by a story from Eastland, Tx. The residents put a horned toad in a time capsule, believing stories that these creatures can hibernate for up to 100 years. 31 years later, when a new courthouse was to be built, the mayor unveiled the time capsule. Inside was a flat, dusty horned toad...but it suddenly moved. It woke up fully, and the town named it Old Rip (after Rip Van Winkle). Old Rip died shortly after of pneumonia. The town embalmed it and displayed it in the town hall. Turns out, according to a toadnapper, the government officials had secretly replaced the dead toad with a live one. Officials denied it, thus the toadnapper never returned the embalmed toad...what did the town officials do then? They embalmed another dead horned toad and put it on display! But, this is the toad that inspired my beloved Michigan J Frog! vimeo/m/50941741
