So back to a few observations on WP, traffic and growth. Wont - TopicsExpress

So back to a few observations on WP, traffic and growth. Wont write a tome, just snapshots. Trader Joes would look a lot different if it were not at a tough T intersection. While looking at the amount of parking spaces provided, I think too much focus is on that and not enough on the equally, or perhaps more important interior and off-site traffic flow. Many of us went to a large event at the Alfond Inn on a weeknight on a drizzly 5PM about 6 weeks ago. The traffic throughout Downtown WP was a disaster. Why? Not because there werent enough spaces, but because the Valet (and/or self park), was not designed to evacuate people from the streets. Everyone had to make a grand entry, all at a peak time (the peak time is key). even if they had the valet manpower, they could not handle people coming and going in . the plan should have been altered to get folks OFF the roads and into the lot as quickly as possible (I am aware of the covered entry design, and pkg. revenue issues, but they need to move to plan B).I am bringing up the issue because whatever happens at the Mount Vernon, this needs to be addressed. There seem to be a couple of Restaurants planned up front, that will have MANY peak time events, and evacuating back-ups on 17-92, thinking through the valet issues will be vital. Too bad if the swells cant screw around with the car hand off for 5 minutes, so they can walk right into dinner. I hope the design is based on evacuating people off of 17-92 as quick as possible, while still working for the developer and his tenants.I know this can be a good project, and all projects will have impacts, but dont only focus on parking spaces, keep your eye on traffic flow.
