So check this out… Here is an update. Many of you have been writing/calling asking me how I am doing and how it happened. However, before I write this, I just want to thank you all for worrying and caring. I feel the love! Really, it does mean a lot to me. Getting all your texts and messages was special. Now, here is the story in a nutshell. This way, hopefully I don’t have to repeat it again. Hehe. Ok, so yesterday, around 3: 45 pm, I was checking our golf cart for some issues. I was bending down trying to get into a pushup position, when both my feet slipped backwards because of some leaves and dirt that were there on the cement. I was going down face first, so in immediate instinct, I was able to break my fall using my right arm. Luckily, I didn’t break my nose. Unfortunately, my arm came out of socket. Yeah; needless to say it was bad. I was able to put it back in place almost immediately. It was the adrenaline of the moment. It all happened so fast! Of course, the pain was excruciating; but I thought I was (and that I’d be) fine. I went back inside into the lobby, where several of my student workers were there witnessing what just had happened. They asked me if they needed to call 911 or take me themselves to ER. In my ego, I told them that I was fine, that it was not a big deal. I think I was more embarrassed than anything. Haha. But the pain kept getting worse. I sat down, but my students kept insisting that I needed to go to the hospital. All of a sudden, I felt as if boiling water started running through the inside of my shoulder. It was literally burning! It started spreading down the bicep and triceps, and the opposite way into my clavicle area. I started freaking out, and finally said, “Yes, ok… let’s go.” I told them I’d rather go to our own Health Services, since I didn’t feel it was an emergency. I am telling you… my ego was more hurt. Haha. Of course, as soon as we got to HS, they told me that I needed to go to ER right away! But also take care of this with HR, since it was a job-related injury. Well, fast forward about 2.5 hours (since that is literally how long it took them to see us at the hospital), I got checked, observed, and assessed. After going through the x-rays, the doctors said that I was able to put the arm in the right place, the right way. There are no broken bones or fractures of any kind, which I am thankful for. The doctor, however, believes that I have a rotator cuff tear. Crap! Basically, this is what QB’s get when they get sacked as they are passing a Hail Mary pass. This is not good at all. :( Of course, I have very little mobility of my arm (about 30% at the most, and that’s pushing it). And to make it worse, the pain is worse today than yesterday. I couldn’t sleep, which sucks because I was exhausted. Well, today I am supposed to see another doctor, who will send me to another one, the right Orthopedic doctor. I am to have an MRI either today or tomorrow to see how bad it is. As of now, I have this little crappy sling just to keep me from moving it too much. I hate it. Haha. I feel like it seriously just makes things worse. I hate feeling handicapped! I am also to get the stronger meds today, and these supposedly WILL help with the pain. Good, cuz the other ones suck. And as most of you who know me well already know, I HATE TAKING MEDS! Like, with a passion. But I am not going to lie… the pain is unbearable, so at this point, whatever helps I’ll take it! Hook me up with morphine, I don’t care. In my lifetime, I have broken my right wrist, two fingers (one in each hand), fractured my right ankle (plus twisted them literally thousands of times), and tore my left ACL. But they were ALL sports-related injuries. All of them! This is the first time that something like this happens to me. Fail! Haha. I guess those come with age, right? Oh well. It is what it is. But it’ll be fine! I hope I can play sports and do music soon! Otherwise, that is going to suck! Oh shoot, and I was supposed to play this weekend! Crap… Sorry, Nathan Jaden Smith I think you might need to find another bassist. The doctor also said I MUST stay at home and not work for at least 2 days. Umm… yeah, this is not good timing. Move-in day is tomorrow. Ignite is all this week. Yeah… sorry doc, but that is not going to happen. Today at best. I apologize that this is a long post. It took even longer using mostly one hand. But then again, you were curious… so there you go. I also just didn’t want to repeat myself another 300 times. Hehe. Also, to finish, I just want to give a shout-out to Chris Kaatz , for being patient with me and taking care of me. Even if it meant missing a free meal at Spaghetti Factory with the rest of the Ignite leaders. You are the man, dude! Just keep me in your prayers! Also, as you’ve heard before… I have this condition which requires me to take large quantities of chocolate and Mexican candy. So if you feel generous, you know where to find me. :P Thanks for caring!
