So ever since hearing about this Ive been bothered knowing that Kobe Bryant has received so much outrage just for speaking his mind. Im no Laker or Kobe fan on the court, but I do respect Kobe for having the backbone to speak his mind (as a minority) on an issue as sensitive as this. Speaking to reporters about why he wasnt outraged over the Trayvon Martin shooting Kobe said, I wont react to something just because Im supposed to, because Im an African-American. That argument doesnt make any sense to me. So we want to advance as a society and a culture, but, say, if something happens to an African-American we immediately come to his defense? Yet you want to talk about how far weve progressed as a society? Well, if weve progressed as a society, then dont jump to somebodys defense just because theyre African-American. You sit and you listen to the facts just like you would in any other situation, right? So I wont assert myself. I support Kobe for speaking his mind and I hope everyone else will too.
