So evidently, Mexican people are magical cooking ninjas. I just tried to make corn tortillas...... That right there my friends, is a completely and utterly impossible task. Mixed the dough as instructed, floured the counter, floured the rolling pin, measured out the desired ball of dough.... This is where it went bad......Set the dough out and attempted to flatten it and it just spiderwebed into a Sahara desert like consistency..... Ok, package clearly states that if the dough seems dry, add a teaspoon of water at a time until its the proper moisture. Add ONE TEASPOON of water to the mixture..... I just made quicksand, complete, muddy disaster. Add some more flour, more water, more flour, more water..... Now I have right around a 55 gallon drum worth of dough but it seems to be the right consistency so I measure out another ball, flour counter, flour rolling pin, start to flatten with my hands, going good, now I take the rolling pit to it...... I need to be clear here, I could have had a rolling pin MADE of flour and I think it would have stuck, just rolled right up onto the pin, over, and over, and over, and over......oh, and over, but I finally get it to a reasonably acceptable thickness. Now its time to get it onto the pan to cook. Try to peel it up, breaks, and again, and again.... Try a spatula, breaks in half, its now just a muddy speedbump on my counter, and its drying out, as is all the other 54.95 gallons of dough that Id made...... Never did get a single tortilla out of it. And this my friends, is why I think Im OK with the amnesty thing.
