So, for my birthday, Jamie and I decided to go away for the weekend. A pastor friend of mine, Pastor David Paul, was in revival in Augusta, Ga. so we went to see him there. He spoke from 2 Kings 5 about Naaman, the Ranking Officer of the Syrian Army. He was the one who, even though he was a man of authority and power, had an incurable disease which made him desperate (& undoubtedly embarrassed & ashamed) to get help. His disease & desperation brought him into contact with the Anointing of God through the Prophet Elisha. When he asked the Man of God for a Miracle, he was told to do something very simple. Go and bathe in the dirty water of the Jordan River! This simple task was then complicated by two things. (1) Naamans Pride. (2) Naamans Analytical Thinking. To him, these instructions were too simple and just didnt make sense. After getting angry and throwing a fit, he was finally persuaded by his underlings to do as the Prophet had instructed. Scripture tells us that his incurable disease was then Cured! After listening to the message tonight, I have begun to realize a few things about us human beings; #1- you would think that desperate people would lose their pride and arrogance, but they dont. #2- just because we are in church and around the anointing of God doesnt automatically mean that we will receive miracles and blessings from God. We are responsible for exercising our faith and following His Instructions! #3- Gods instructions can be very simple. We are the reason that they become difficult and complicated! #4- human reasoning, common sense and analytical thinking have absolutely nothing to do with God. Sometimes He will ask us to do things so counterintuitive that others will look at us as if we have lost our minds when we share it with them. When God speaks something personally to us, dont expect others to be your cheerleaders (sometimes even family and other church friends). Afterall, my Bible tells me that God commanded someone to build a large boat in the middle of a desert! So, when you find yourself in a desperate place, look around for the Anointing which will give instruction to follow. Then follow instructions!
