So for some odd reason I feel like talking about Viserys, and the prompt is, Do you feel sorry for Viserys? I do, but at the same time I don’t. Viserys was a very troubled man/boy. He was, in his mind, the rightful king of a faraway kingdom that had usurped his right, killed his family, and forced him and his sister into exile out of fear. His father and brother were killed when he was very young, then, while fleeing, his sister was born and his mother died in the process. They lived on the streets, fleeing from the “Usurper’s” knives. We only know this from Daenerys’s weak childhood memories, but I believe it’s possible given the events in A Game of Thrones. He also, possibly, suffered from Targaryen Madness. It’s said that every time a new Targaryen is born, the gods toss the coin in the air and the world holds its breath to see how it will land. Viserys could have possibly been on the wrong end of that coin. But at the same time, he was a bad person. He physically hurt Daenerys. It is said that he attempted to steal into her chamber the night before her wedding to Khal Drogo to steal her maidenhood. He was verbally aggressive to Khal Drogo (just not a good idea, really). So he was a very tragic, very George R.R. Martin character. But I couldn’t help feel sorry for him, even just a little. And while I usually hate on the TV show, Harry Lloyd did a remarkable job on the character. Very rarely does a TV show actor really leave an impression on me when it comes to the book. Sure, Sophie Turner’s face is Sansa when I read. Sean Bean is Ned Stark. But with less defined characters (another example is Margaery with Natalie Dormer), when there’s a good actor, we get a great character for both. But yes. In a way, I do feel sorry for him. He had a very tragic existence and I think death may have brought him peace. He did horrible things (though mostly contained to Daenerys), and none of them are excusable, but just the same, he’s tragic. ~ Heartsbane https://youtube/watch?v=85JeShM_ck8
