So... funny story, or maybe not.... I was messing around with PKI tokens and USB keys and the such.. Those of you that have been in a situation that you have used that type of security, I think you might relate... either that or I was just REALLY stupid: Made a USB/PKI for my computer... rather nice.. was able to make it shut down when I removed the USB drive... I was poking around the software and noticed that you can also user Bluetooth (like, COOL I can use my phone) So I set up my phone as an either/or solution. Was working awesome... Then the world ended, well at least mine did for about an hour... My phone was causing the system to log off because it was running out of power. I was like, oh ok, I will just remove it as a token. Ya know, so I dont have to put up with the issue in the future... I logged in with the USB KEY. Like always, I my hands were typing faster than the speed of my brain.. I removed --- (drum roll) the USB KEY setting.. didnt catch it right then, no.. The system said reboot to have changes take effect. So, like any good little tech, I ignored it. My phone beeped one last time, and died.. poof... gone.. exit stage left... you r DONE.. I think you get the drift. What did the computer do? REBOOT! Computer comes up with NO USER LOG ON OPTION... that is of course how I set it, why? I DONT KNOW... BECAUSE I COULD I thought, ok I will just put the USB KEY (not knowing at this point it was deleted) in and press on with my work. NO.. of course it would not be that easy.. I was cursed by the computer gods... USB did not work, phone was dead.. (did I stop and charge it?) So here I am, tired cause I took NyQuil for my stuffy nose, along with my other meds. (have you ever seen a keyboard with 208 keys? (for you non techies a normal one has 104 keys) And, for you math impaired people (Tay) That would be double vision...(so, no.. didnt charge it) So, it is now 2300ish, Cant see strait, Cant THINK strait and I am without a computer. Anyone that knows me knows what I mean about end of world with me and no computer. AND BTW, the program I used did not allow for you to boot into safe mode and disable it. I thought good thing I made a recovery disk like every good techie does NOT! I did however make a bootable flash drive so I could work on computers that had PEBKAC... never thought I would have to use it on mine. I stuck it in... boot the computer (attached to my TV via HDMI) now, I mention the connection to my TV because I sat there holding my head in shame for about 20 minutes before I realized that hello mcfly dos/text based recovery does not work over HDMI as it needs windows drivers to do so... NO Mike Dion THAT IS NOT A REASON TO GET APPLE... I was finally able to sit down and boot the system face-to-face and pulled up some of the rescue software I have... NOTHING WORKED as the program does not allow outside access to it. STUPID NTFS.... I miss FAT32 (at least the computer would have more FAT than me :) ) I did get the system up and running (obviously) and averted another ELE... Praise the Lord for the talents and brains He gave me... Touché Microsoft!
