So great to skate once again tonight at 9:00 pm from the santa monica pier with my friends lafridaynightskate.org we went about 12 miles on a new route from venice over on abbot kinney, then towards sm. airport, up and around and back down broadway to the beach. There were 14 when we started, fun times. It amazes me that there are so few people that come to these fun, free social activities. In as much as I love to skate I was never confident in my ability to stop. Saw this cool invention someplace, probably on the internet, kickstarted it a bit, and tonight was the debut with the Flex Brake These brakes attach to your individual skates, and you control them naturally by leaning back and pulling up on the left and right straps. I can skate, go kinda fast and be confident in my ability to stop. It is so much more satisfying knowing all you have to do is pull up on the straps on both legs that attach smartly to your belt loops, really well engineered. A huge game changer, and yes, I wear all sorts of padding for my knees and elbows, gloves wrist guards and helmet, so if I go down, I can handle it. The rolling parade around the back streets of santa monica, everyone lit up in different shades of neon, going under the freeway in a tunnel I never even knew existed, . Ryan carried the backpack with the music and these guys skate fast. Yes there are stops for people to catch up, so we ride as a collection of friends. I might be the last one, but I finish, tonight, an old friend, Dr. Ed Share joined us. Good to be alive and pumped.
