So happy to be home! Im sitting at Wild East, waiting for Stephanie Folts - Im early, so I thought Id blog a bit. Not one of my rants-- just a blog. Finally got around to washing the disgusting pollen off the front porch and putting out some flowers today. Usually do this in April! Where has the time gone? Oh yea....been kind of busy at work with my three jobs there. About 18 months ago, I started really learning how to run my business. Ive made tutus, etc, at Tutu.Com for 20 years. Figured it was time to organize and streamline....truth be told, I didnt have a choice in the matter. And Im finding that Im a pretty good administrator, and thankful that I finally get it. Something one of my mentors, Bobby Lindgren, tried to tell me I had talent for 20 years ago. Back then, I didnt want to listen -- I was frustrated with having to do anything office/business-oriented, and I could not see past being an artist/teacher. Bobby said good administrators WERE artists. I could not wrap my mind around that concept back then. My company, Charlotte City Ballet, was at a point where it needed really good administrative leadership. So what did I do? I quit, and started Tutu.Com, so I could continue to make art, tutus rather than dancers, but art nonetheless. And, hey, my hips were gone. I needed two hip replacements. At the time, like so many ex-ballet dancers, I could not see the value and absolute necessity of good administrative leadership. Im older and wiser now - haha! And I smile every time I think of those talks with Bobby over lunch. He was a smart cookie. Now, onward! I really hope I make him proud. I figure, he is organizing Heaven these days.
