So, here are my thoughts on some of the negativity I see online - TopicsExpress

So, here are my thoughts on some of the negativity I see online regarding the #icebucketchallenge. Hold on, let me get this here soapbox.... My husband has a disease that, even though 600,000+ Americans and over 12 million people world wide have it, no one has heard of it. It gets little funding. It has no cure or treatment, and at least 50% of those diagnosed will need a kidney transplant. So in my mind ANYTHING that would bring awareness to Polycystic Kidney Disease would be amazing. Something that actually raised money for it? Holy crap. So I cant see the ice bucket challenge as bad... even if some people arent donating when they dump. Because the conversation is THERE, its on a national stage. MILLIONS have been raised. How can that be bad? Its inspirational. It makes those of us with loved ones fighting other battles that tend to not be media worthy... it gives us inspiration. It gives us ideas. It gives us hope... hope that we can find a way to start OUR conversation. And for those who are in drought stricken areas or dont feel it is responsible to dump a gallon of water? Heres my thought: Tuck your shirt into your pants. Now, get a drinking glass. put some water in it and a few ice cubes. Now... dump it down your shirt. Your tucked in shirt. There- you have your minimal water usage ice challenge and I guarantee you its JUST as entertaining to watch you hop and squeal and dance with ice cubes down your shirt. :D
