So here is a pretty powerful example of an enormous misstep in liberal-/progressive message-making. Women earn 73 cents to a mans dollar. Anyone who has looked at the data knows that this factoid is misleading and does not compare like work to like work, similar education to education, experience to experience, etc. Now that conservatives are pushing back they can truthfully say that the statistic is misleading, call the gender pay gap a complete myth, and even say they are empowering women with the truth. Had progressives been honest in the first place then we might be having a discussion about why men far outnumber women in high-paying fields, or how society can structure itself so that women can bear children and maintain careers. But no, we wont get around to that because all people have to hear is that they were misled in the first place and youve lost your audience.
