So here is a question or 2 I am wondering about and would like some opinions on. Why do teachers like to teach from the back of the room and why do teachers like to sit down a lot while they teach? I understand a few reasons already, but was just curious to hear from others and to read a few thoughts on the subject! Thanks! I just noticed that RONDA SWENSEN posted on the group page Bikram Yoga Teachers less than 6 hours ago but I cannot tag her since we have no mutual friends lol!!! I am copy pasting here because last night it occurred to me the only Bikram Studio with Jordan in the title is Bikram Yoga West Jordan in West Jordan, Utah and I did not look to see than Ronda is the Studio Director!! I am making this post visible to the public so for those who dont know me I lived in Las Vegas, Nevada from 2000-2010 and in August 2008 I began practicing at Bikram Yoga Green Valley in Henderson, Nevada and in June/July 2009 I visited Amman, Jordan for the first time since 1982 and the closest studio is Bikram Yoga Israel ביקראם יוגה ישראל in Tel Aviv, Israel and at that time I was not familiar with Professor Backwards hahaha!! here are pages for Bikram Yoga and ¡¡ viva Israel !! and Viva & Aviv The River and Viva NashVegas Radio Show in Franklin, Tennessee and I am currently in La Vergne, Tennessee which is less than 20 miles from Nashville, Tennessee!!!! shout out to Michael B Jordan and here are pages for Yoga in Jordan and Jordan National Basketball Team and DEVI YOGA SHALA and ACROYOGA JORDAN and Jordan national basketball team and Tamir Goodman aka Jewish Jordan and Jordan the Jew Saperstein and History of the Jews in Jordan and Jordan Farmar... by far the best jew on the Lakers and the letters in FARMAR spells F MARAR which reminds me of Yael Neumann in Israel who I met at TT and she is friends with someone named JILL FARMAR!! less than two weeks after returning from Amman I learned the Bikram Yoga Teacher Training would be coming to the Las Vegas Hilton so I signed up!! shout out to Oscar Goodman who was mayor of Vegas from 1999-2011 and now his wife Carolyn Goodman is mayor, and here are pages for Oscar Baylin Goodman and Tamir Goodman and Carolyn Goodman for Mayor and Oscar Goodmans and Monarch Hair Care-Carolyn Goodman and Being Oscar and Carolyn Goodman, Attorney At Law and Michael Jordan and Carolyn Goodman (psychologist) and Jordanian Basketball and Goodman Carolyn & William and Help Me Ronda Aromatherapy & Massage and Help Me Ronda in Dallas, Texas and Dallas Travel & Tourism in Amman and Help Me, Ronda and Help Me, Rhonda and Help Me Health Coach Ronda and Help Me Ronda Catering in Henryville, Indiana ... for those who are not members of the Bikram Yoga Teachers group page below I have copy pasted the comments so far regarding Rondas post: Michael Houghton Standing in the back and sitting down = disconnection. We mentor our teachers to teach from the front, on the podium, using the dialogue, energy, compassion AND connection to lead their class. Oh yes, with a headset too both to protect their voice and allow clear direct command without yelling. 4 hrs · Like · 2 John Bilane We are verboten from doing either of those things. 3 hrs · Like · 1 Lora Finelli I teach the way that is preferred by the studio owner that I am working for at the time. And in my experience, teaching from the back allows you to see the alignment of the bodies in a different way. You can see the spines and you can see the front of the people in the mirror. And your rights and lefts are coherent with theirs. In teaching from the front, you can see their faces better and get a better reading on if they may need to sit down. From the front I feel more like Im talking to a group and its a dialog. From the back I feel more like Im talking with the group and were doing something together. I like both methods really. 3 hrs · Like · 15 Lora Finelli I think sitting down becomes a habit when the teacher is tired? Maybe the breathing and talking for 90 minutes isnt regulated enough... Not sure. I feel like I lose the students if I sit down. 3 hrs · Like Katherine Zitterbart I tend to teach from the back in mirrored studios and to teach from the front in studios without mirrors (i teach multiple forms). As for sitting, I will echo Lora Finelli - I sit when deeply fatigued, and generally only during the first savasana on the floor - wind removing. Once people can see me in the mirror, im back up on my feet. 3 hrs · Like · 6 John Bilane OK, this is touchy, but it has occurred to me that it is impolite to be standing where there could even be the perception that you are looking at the students asses as they bend over for some of the postures. I keep my eyes very high when I have to go to the back to modify the thermal controls and I get back to the podium as quickly as I can. 3 hrs · Like · 1 Chris Ranson For me its perspective, you see a different perspective alignment from the front or the back. Sitting personal I only do in savasna and wind releaving.. but everyone to their own, as long as there is integrity 3 hrs · Like · 3 Jacob Stickney I got into the habit of sitting on a stool/chair, and so far, Ive taught vastly stronger classes. Im not lazy or tired, by any means, it just allows me to be more relaxed. And its effective. To each his/her own. 2 hrs · Like · 6 Kevin Cooke Good grief really? What does it matter if you stand sit or levitate while teaching? Sitting is lazy? Verboten? Standing in the back and sitting down = disconnection? None of this makes any sense at all to me. Its all about your ability to connect with the student and engage with them. It makes no difference whether youre standing in the back, front, side or sitting. By the logic used here Bikram is one lazy ass dude. As an owner I have no rules about where you stand or sit or levitate. I am concerned if your posture sucks however. 2 hrs · Like · 18 Karina Panepinto I have to agree with you Kevin...Im à studio owner and i couldnt care less either! But new shaky teachers i make them stand there and face their students untill they are more conscious of their surroundings. Connection with your students has nothing to do with them being able to see you, they re not supposed to look at you anyway. 2 hrs · Like · 6 Kevin Cooke Heres one of or teachers, Saiko, sitting while teaching a 6:00am class, she doesnt look tired or lazy to me. Kevin Cookes photo. 2 hrs · Like · 1 Heidi Mathis Parrow I like to move around the room as it makes me feel more connected to the students especially in a class of 40 or 50 students. Want even the students in the corners feel as though I give a darn and notice them as they are usually the newer students. As for sitting I stand for first half and then sit on and off second half of class. I have arthritis in my feet and knees and have to move my joints around or my knees lock up. Especially when Im teaching more than Im taking!!! 2 hrs · Like · 2 Heidi Mathis Parrow Great questions. Love the different perspectives. 2 hrs · Like Judith May If you were a teacher you would know that sometimes teachers get tired too it might be our 3rd or 4th class of the day... I usually stand for entire class & walk around giving corrections. If I stand behind my students its so as I can see the students in the front rows alignment... which I cant see if I stand on the podium. If you are preoccupied with where the teacher is you are not concentrating enough on yourself. #John Bilane what country do u teach.? Your answers are far out!! 1 hr · Like · 1 Paul Lopresti The mirrors are in the front so I can see the back if the body as well as the front if Im standing in the back. During the floor series I stand in the front center to see the whole room. Im new to teaching yoga but Ive taught martial arts for over 23 years and thats the way Ive been able to be most effective. Using my eyes and mirrors to pick up clues about a persons body. 1 hr · Like · 1 https://youtube/watch?v=4Te_lCF69Aw
