So here is an idea for all you video game designing wannabees... Go download the UDK (Unreal Development Kit), or Unity 3D, they are both free for private use. Get workbooks and build yourself a game from top to bottom. That is images, sounds, voices, world creation, physics manipulation, modeling, interaction, and scripting. That way you actually have a good idea of what goes into the FULL design of video games, and if you know those two programs you are GOLDEN and will probably get hired if you did a good job and have something to present. Im getting tired of listening to people who go into this field thinking it will be fun and that they will get to program all the hit games of the next decade. Its like being a pyrotechnic for Disney World 10 years ago. The amount of work that goes into what you want to do vs. the tiny sliver of what you think is fun (in ide say 70% of peoples cases) is huge. This is true of most fields, but the video game field is so competitive, its something to REALLY work at. Ask my friend Andrew Lewis, he knows.
