So, here is how my day went. I made the decision to buy the Nikon D800 from ProCenter and also asked about spare batteries. The didnt have any so I called Dodd and was assured they had them in stock and I requested that they hold two for me. I picked up my new D800 from ProCenter, and was there while a friend bought their last one. Then we both went to lunch with Bill Skinner and had one hell of a great conversation (The food was good as well). After lunch, I went to Dodd to pick up the batteries and thats when I discovered that they werent what I asked for (NIKON EN-EL15) but the high-profit margin, true quality unknown called Promaster. I was NOT happy and explained to the guy behind the counter that he should have told me that. Should I have asked? Some would say yes but a business that claims to be interested in dealing with professionals, should not assume that we all want to cheapest crap out there. As it was they were the same price as the Nikon version. When I asked him if they had any of the Nikon brand he initially said that they didnt carry them (BS). When he was informed that the indeed carry them I had to ask if they actually had any in stock (Really? The guy should have been scrambling to rectify the situation.) He also tried to explain to me that they come from the same factory (BS until documentable proof is available) and one of his co-workers said that they had HEARD they came from the same place. Eventually it came to light that they only had one of the Nikon brand batteries so I only bought that one. The funny thing is that if I recall, their manager was within earshot of the whole thing and while occasionally giving us the side eye, said nothing throughout the entire thing. I ended up leaving with only the one battery, and they didnt even offer to order me a second one. From the way I was treated the first time I bought from them (A Manfrotto Variable Friction Magic Arm that was defective) where they asked me over the phone if I was sure I was using it correctly, to todays little deception, that was the last time I will deal with Dodd. I have ordered another battery from ProCenter as well as a secondary charger and Im happy to wait for them to come in.
