So here is our daughters wedding story. Susan King and Shawn Douglas Crosby were engaged last thanksgiving started planning their august 2014 wedding. Shawn is a US Marine (so proud of him!). It was going to be THE wedding of the season (at least we thought that). Then Shawn talked about possible deployment. Then a more definite early deployment. So plans were made for a small wedding over the July 4th weekend. Another call, different plans. A smaller wedding in a park in Fairmont. The last call came as mike and I and Susan were trying to imagine an arbor in this little park. All we heard was Susan saying THIS WEEKEND! Ok, so plans changed once again. That was a Friday. Susan and I bought her wedding dress that weekend. I asked her what are four things you want for your wedding - your dad and I will make sure you have that. She left Monday for camp lejeune NC where Shawn was anxiously awaiting her arrival. Mike and I, and josh and Leslie, went work/school and prepared for our daughters wedding. The four of us headed to NC on Friday. Saturday was a busy time but wonderful all the same. Imagine cramming a years worth of wedding plans into just 8 hours. It was a beautiful day with a breeze. Shawn and Susan were wed in a gazebo over the water at North Topsail Beach NC. Mike and I were able to provide Susans four things: her wedding dress, a beautiful wedding cake stand, lanterns, and a wooden cross (mike made it from wood from my parents farm). A friend took pictures and a friend of another friend made the wedding cake. Susans sister Leslie was her maid of honor; Shawns US Marine buddy was his best man. Another friend lent her little boy and girl to be part of the wedding party. We had (maybe) fifteen people there for the wedding and cookout reception. Others in the park yelled out their congratulations. And even though we didnt know anyone but Shawn and Susan, we were surrounded by love and compassion. Ive never seen my daughter Susan so happy - happy doesnt even come close. The King family is thrilled to have Shawn Crosby as one of us - and we will go through the good & bad times with you all too. God has blessed us through it all. We continue to praise him on top of the mountain as well as the valleys. Thank you for sharing in our excitement as the new Mr & Mrs Crosby start their new life together. Also, share in our prayers as Shawn prepares to deploy around the middle of august. God is great and we ask for his protective and guiding hands upon Shawn as he is called to duty. Amen
