So here we go..its not hard! Just put thin paint on where you think the parts of the figure are then slowly intensify the color and tone(=value) until it looks right. You recall how i said that we need to stop at about a value 7 highlight in the scene painting...well now you see the reason. We want the figure to be the eye catcher and that can only come from it having more contrast (=light V dark) and /or more color impact (=new color/variety/patterns etc). So the hat gives us the area to dominate in highlight-so I take it up to value 9-10 in highlight. Stands out! Yep! The pink in the dress is unusual so it has its own presence and reinforces the figure as the subject of interest and so on. Next I calibrate the scene so they both look part of each other-the reflections and shadow is a big help here. Over and out. Next a beach scene for everyone...and heres the start....
