So heres the thing, when Kristoff swooped into Cambodia and bought -- er, I mean, saved -- two women from the brothels (both of whom had returned in a week), he created a nice little market for a while in bought and sold girls. Then, a year or two later, he and his wife swooped in and very publicly built a school -- which they didnt staff. Just paid for a building to go up. Cambodia doesnt need buildings nearly so much as it needs teachers who are paid well enough to not be on the take. Kristoff needs to take a page from This American Life. When the show learned theyd be fooled by Mike Daisy, Ira called him and confronted him in the studio, then humbly admitted theyd been had. Kristoff needs to find a little piece of that humble pie as well, because stories of Somaly Mams deceit have floated around Cambodia for a decade...
