So, how is this different from Google Glass? Why will this succeed where Google failed? First, yes I do think this platform will succeed. Would you like to know why? Its an actual monitor. Its not an all-in-one device, like Glass. But wouldnt an all-in-one device be better? No, not really. Glass really ran into performance problems. To get true HD on such a small device was very difficult and application developers were limited by the domain of Glass. You see, the point of Glass was to be a mobile social device. Basically, a way to have a more interactive mobile phone. Microsoft is taking a different approach. Theyre replacing the desktop. This ugly bit of eyewear isnt meant to go on the subway with you. Its meant to work with you in the studio, the office, or living room. Im glad to see Microsoft recognizing what theyre good at. Theyre good at making work devices. The Surface has really proven itself to be a preferred office device over the iPad or an Android tablet. All three are great devices, but only one truly works like an actual PC. I can actually load a complete development environment on a surface and connect to local servers running in the background. That doesnt happen with an iPad. I love my little iPad mini, but I wont be developing webpages on it any time soon. Overall, I think this product will be a win for Microsoft, because theyre seeing the potential for a product like Glass, except in a domain where its more fitting. At work.
