So i just watched a French political show in which important politicians are grilled in a series of interviews and debates for 2 hours and a half (a great format which the BBC should adopt). This week it was Alain Juppe a former prime minister under Chirac who will likely be the centre-right candidate and in my opinion president(bit early to say). During this show they featured several duels with politicians from other parties. In particular one of them was with the 22 year old niece of marine le pen representing the Front National( shes the youngest mp in French modern history) . No one bated an eye lid as she called for immigrants to sacrifice their culture to become part of france, attacked the buildings of the first and only mosque in bordeaux and called for the repeal of the equal marriage law. I knew that FN was the face of modern fascism in France but what really shocked me just how clean a gloss it has over it.
