So, in the continuing odds-beating trend of how often I have significant air travel snafus, I am still in San Fran airport. Why? Plane had busted nose gear strut. Not discovered until we pulled away from the gate. Wait an hour on the tarmac. then back to gate and deplane. Learn that Im going to spend the night in Chicago,not my own bed.Oh joy. But before anyone thinks this is a double-whammy since Fire with Fire did not garner a Nebula,I want to step in and simply say: nope. Not where my head is. The Nebulas were a great experience, populated by great folks, almost zero politicization, and were 36 hours worth of heady run-up to the ceremony itself. The winners were all women, some have muttered. And I answer, So what? They all wrote great stories, and in re: to the narrative foci of the winners, I can only point out that taste is a pendulum. I saw zero evidence of bloc-voting, either in the nomination or final voting.The bottom line is that the outcomes were wholly unremarkable. Fire With Fire pleased enough SFWA members to be nominated, but not enough to win. That happens to the majority of books on the ballot every year. And I had a great time being part of the process. From start to finish.End of story. Now I just need to get back home to pen the next Starfire novel !
