So, in the last couple of days, Ive seen a really interesting TED talk on the art of being yourself - getting into the differences between Perception, Persona, Ego, and actual Self... Ive also been thinking about the whole rule of thumb that says that you are the average of the five people with whom you spend the most time (so keep quality people in your circle, etc). My question is, if were gauging the quality of my five closest friends to determine MY quality... is it their true, core self that matters (do we ever know a persons true self? Can you know your own true self)? Or do we judge them by their ego - their view of themselves? Or is it their persona I with which I should be concerned, how they /want/ others to see them, their goals and aspirations as a human? Or, finally, should we judge our friends by our perception of them, or the worlds perception of them? How do YOU measure the quality of a person, valued facebook friend? How do you judge character? Does the value of our true character lie within, where no one can see? How far within? People are weird little things. Anyway, watch this thing if youve got 25 minutes; shes awesome.
